How I Met My Valentine
When it comes to Valentine's Day, my husband and I don't really "celebrate." This year, we arranged a night without our daughter over the weekend and then did nothing. But in the spirit of the holiday, I thought I'd share the story of how we met seven years ago.
I had been working at the station for about three months on the overnight shift, living at home with my parents, and generally not having a social life. I'd been single for awhile and wanted to meet someone new, but that's kind of hard when your schedule is literally the complete opposite of most everybody else. My friend recommended Plenty of Fish, so I filled out the profile questionnaire, set up the parameters of who I was interested in meeting, and uploaded a profile picture.
After a few dead-end chats with guys who were only interested in one thing, I decided to take matters into my own hands and started looking through the profiles of men with whom I'd been "matched." When I got to Chris' I was instantly interested, but couldn't muster up the nerve to send a message. I actually got my mom to come help me figure out what to send, and - no joke - as we were crafting a message, one popped up from him.
We chatted online for awhile getting to know each other. Then we exchanged phone numbers and texted back and forth and even had a few phone calls. Our first date was on January 26, 2010, and the rest, as they say, is history.
