6 Ways to Wear Your White Jeans this Fall & Winter
There's a saying: rules are meant to be broken. I like to think that saying was coined when having a discussion about fashion. After all, fashion is personal. There's no one size fits all formula to follow, and fashion rules were definitely meant to be broken.
My favorite rule to break this time of year? No white after Labor Day. There's no rule that says you can only wear shades of black in fall and winter. So don't pack away your white jeans now that the weather has turned cooler. I promise there's still plenty of use for them over the next several months.
Don't believe me? Here are 6 Ways to Wear Your White Jeans this Fall and Winter.
First, let's chat about my jeans. I have a hard time finding comfortable white jeans. They always seem so much stiffer than other jeans; I don't know why. This pair is from the a.n.a brand found at JCPenney. They're still a good bit stiffer than regular jeans in the same brand, but they fit my shape better than any other pair I've tried. I can't find the exact style (re: not raw hems) but you can check out what all they've got by clicking here.
Now, on to the outfit ideas. Let's start with a few I think would be appropriate to wear if you work in a business-casual environment or if you're going out.
Sizing note: I'm 5'2" and usually wear size 6/8 or medium in tops and dresses, size 6 in bottoms, and size 7 in shoes.
I would absolutely have worn the outfits shown above and below to work when I was still with the TV station. The trick to making white jeans work appropriate is to pair them with the same tops you would wear with white slacks. In cooler weather, stick with darker colored tops and shoes.
Black and white are a classic combo for any time of year. I'm particularly fond of pairing blue and black together, and you can never go wrong with a pair of classic black pumps.
This outfit is essentially a long-sleeved version of the first outfit, but with a little more flair.
For a decidedly fall feel, try deep reds like burgundy or maroon. You know my love of patterns, and I couldn't resist pairing this pretty flutter sleeve blouse with the lighter bottoms (yes, I'm aware that statement sleeves aren't really a thing anymore, I just don't care). I could have keep things simple with plain brown heels but decided to take things even further with a little pattern play. Leopard print is basically a neutral these days anyway, right?
White and grey are so pretty together, yeah? It's like looking at a winter landscape but in clothes. I would have worn this to work, as well, but it's definitely more on the casual side for office attire. It's perfect for a day out shopping or a date night.
I absolutely love this embellished sweater I got from Amazon this year. The slight lantern sleeve combined with the piping and 3D polka dots make it so much more interesting than a plain grey sweater. Grey boots would work with this outfit, as well, but I don't have a pair so I went with my fave black booties.
Now, let's move into some more casual ways to wear white jeans in cooler weather.
I've always envied people who put together a chic all-neutral winter look. I've tried and failed many times, but I think I've figured out where I've been going wrong: sticking to shades of white. It just doesn't work for me. This mix of white and taupe strike the perfect balance, and the leather jacket gives it a fun edge.
This isn't a super casual outfit. It feels too clean, but I don't see it in an office setting. I would probably wear it for all the same outings as the white and grey outfit.
This is most definitely a casual outfit. I never would have thought to pair a camo t-shirt with white jeans had I not thrown my white denim jacket on over it recently. I layered my dark denim jacket over the top and kept my shoes neutral, although I did stick with booties. This is actually what I ended up wearing the day I took these photos, but I ended up losing the jacket, unknotting the shirt, and swapping the booties for sneakers.
Theoretically, you could do this outfit with any t-shirt and a denim jacket. Just stick with darker backgrounds on the t-shirt or your outfit will come out feeling like Spring.
Nothing says comfort like a sweatshirt, and this outfit screams athleisure...except, I guess, it's kind of reversed from the norm.
Layering one over your favorite white jeans and then grounding them with a pair of black sneakers gives you a laid-back vibe that doesn't feel sloppy (can white jeans even be sloppy?). Any sweatshirt would work.
What are you waiting for? Throw on your white jeans and embrace the post-Labor Day rule breaking!
