Polka Dot Dress 3 Ways

by - December 03, 2020

I love a dress that I can wear over and over again with different accessories and shoes and create a completely different vibe each time. I know I talk about clothing versatility a lot, but as someone who lives on a pretty strict budget, it's really important that I get a lot of wear per cost.

This dress ticks all the boxes on my shopping checklist: it's affordable; it fits well; and I can wear it at least three ways.

For the purpose of today's post, I'm focusing on the latter.

But first, let's talk about the dress. It's 100 percent polyester with a v-neckline and lantern sleeves. The sleeves have elastic around the wrists, but they weren't tight on me. It's above-the-knee. It's not lined, but it's not see-through at least in the navy blue polka dot. It comes in 33 color/patterns, and you can choose between long sleeves, short sleeves, or sleeveless.

I'm wearing my usual size medium. It's a little snug across my chest, but not uncomfortable, and based on how the rest fits I fell like the large would have hung off me like a potato sack.

This dress is perfect for layering, but as you can see from the pictures I didn't style it that way, choosing instead to focus on my shoes. It's amazing how something as ordinary as a pair of shoes can completely change your outfit. Observe.

Outfit #1: Polka Dot Dress + Over the Knee Boots

I took a poll on my Instagram and Facebook pages, and this was the overwhelming favorite. I think it might have something to do with the boots. They're great with just about everything, but with this dress in particular, they are the perfect height. I love that there's just a sliver of skin visible between the bottom of the dress and the top of the boot. Plus, the dark taupe doesn't distract from the dress, which is the real star of this outfit.

This outfit is perfect for date night, girls day/night, or a casual workplace. Or, if you're like me, you'd wear this on a random Tuesday and call it a good day!

Note: My boots are a few years old and no longer available, but ShoeDazzle has a ton of over-the-knee boots right now. If you're not a member, you can use my link to get your first pair of shoes for only $10 plus free shipping! Click here to check it out.

polka dot dress white fashion sneakers

Outfit #2: Polka Dot Dress + Fashion Sneakers

This is the epitome of a dressed up momiform. The dress is fun and playful, and the perfect visual of my style, while the sneakers keep things practical. Of course, when pairing sneakers with a dress you can't just slip on any old pair. For this dress, my new white and silver sneakers were the obvious choice. They help pull out the white of the polka dots while the silver adds the right amount of sparkle.

Ok, so these are the very same sneakers that I had to do corrective surgery on. Apparently, other people had the same issue so this particular pair has been removed from the seller's site. Because this sneaker is so dang comfy, I'm going to link the other styles by this company. I think my issue was a fluke, as they really do have good reviews and were recommended by a bunch of people who have never steered me wrong before.

polka dot dress snakeprint booties

Outfit #3: Polka Dot Dress + Snakeprint Booties

Last, but certainly not least, is my favorite combination. I don't dabble in print mixing a lot because there's such a subtle science to pulling it off, but this combination hits all the right notes. The key here is that the snakeprint and the polka dot patterns are similar sizes, and the navy blue of the dress pulls out the blue in the boots. The end result is a fun and slightly funky outfit that could be worn to pretty much any occasion.

Note: I got my booties on clearance for $10, and as you can imagine pink snakeprint isn't a common pattern. However, I did manage to find you a few options. I think these ones from Red Dress are the closest match, and the price is nice, but I've never bought anything from them and can't speak to their quality. These Vince Camuto's are pretty but only available in limited sizes. These Marc Fisher's are available in most sizes, but they are on the pricier side.

I told you mine, now it's time for you to weigh in! Which of these outfits is your favorite? Tell me in the comments below.
