Real Outfit Roundup: 5 Outfits I Wore in December
When I sat down to get my outfit pictures together for this post, I was a bit taken aback by the lack of pictures. Then I remembered that I was sick with that mystery illness for a week in mid-December and didn't get dressed beyond sweats and t-shirts while I recuperated. So basically, this post is comprised of three outfits I wore the last week of school before the break and two outfits I wore while doing some shopping.
Up until the week leading into Christmas, we've had really mild temperatures, but over the years I've gotten pretty good at dressing seasonally appropriate in unseasonable weather. Now, though, we're having a taste of real winter, minus the snow (which I'm not sad about at all).
Each of these outfits has at least one new item to share with you, as I've been cleaning out my closet to get it to a more manageable size, adding updated pieces to keep old favorite outfits feeling fresh, and generally improving the functionality of my wardrobe. I currently have six large bags of clothes to be donated to our local Goodwill stuffed in my trunk.
Sizing note: I'm 5'2" and weigh about 140 lbs. I typically wear size 6 or small/medium in clothes and size 7 in shoes.
Does this outfit look familiar? It should! This is one of those outfits I keep refreshing as the years go by simply by changing the top and style of shoes. This year's edition features a short sleeve sweater in a pale blue that I'd been eyeing on Amazon for quite awhile. I finally decided to bite the bullet, and I'm so glad I did. The quality is really good! The sleeves are described as being lantern style, but it's very understated so I feel like they'll outlast the current trend. It does have a cut-out pattern throughout, but it's not enough to make me feel like I needed to wear a camisole underneath it, even for school. The weight was enough for our mild temperatures, so it'll be good for fall through spring, though I think it'll be too thick for our summers. This sweater has nearly 6,500 five-star reviews and comes in more than a dozen colors. You can also choose between crew and v-neck options. I'll probably be adding at least a white and black one soon.
It's been awhile since I owned a true sweater dress, but I do love this one. It's a bit oversized in my opinion, meaning that I would not wear it without something to cinch in the waist. It does come with a matching tie-sash, which is what I used for this first wear. I'm between sizes on this so I decided to go up to the medium, which probably explains all the extra room, but I personally wouldn't want it to be tighter. The sleeves are fitted but loose, it's ribbed and has pockets, and it hits right above my knees.
My boots are a pair that I've been stalking on ShoeDazzle for months waiting for my size to be restocked. My beloved black tall boots bit the dust last year, and I'd been searching in vain for a replacement. This pair is faux suede, have an almond-shaped toe, and a four-inch heel. They're surprisingly comfortable for the heel height. I always order boots in wide-calf because my legs are pretty muscular.
This was a halfway stormy day, so I wanted to dress down a bit. This sweatshirt is on the longer side, which makes it perfect for wearing over thicker leggings, like my favorite Stevie pants from Old Navy. I was hoping for a Troy vibe but the color, unfortunately, is more of a UGA red. Oh well, it is what it is, and this sweatshirt is really comfortable. It's thin, which makes it one I'll wear more often than a traditional thicker version. I did order it in a medium to ensure it wouldn't be tight. It comes in several colors.

Can we talk about this sweater? It is so good. I was worried that it wasn't ever going to get cold enough for me to wear it, but it finally happened. This is a cocoon tunic sweater and it is so cozy, soft, and warm. If you can't tell from the picture, the back is slightly longer than the front, but it's barely noticeable. It's got a bit of an oversized fit, so it's easy to move around in, which was perfect for a day spent shopping. I'm wearing this in a small, so it's true to size. A medium would have been way too big.
This was another day spent shopping, and this sweater was perfect for it. It's thin but warm. I was okay without wearing a camisole underneath, but it's something you might want to consider, especially if you live somewhere cold.
I've really been loving my bootcut jeans this season, especially this pair from Old Navy. They are such a good fit for my body shape and a nice change from my go-to boyfriend jeans that aren't skinny jeans. I, for one, am glad that skinny jeans are no longer the only "fashionable" jean choice.
