Spring Reading List: 10 Books to Add to Your TBR

I'm back with another seasonal reading list. We're not going to talk about how many (how few?) books I actually read from my winter reading list...

My spring break is just around the corner, and we all know that I'll get a lot of reading done that week...when I'm not doing homework. So I looked through my ridiculously long TBR list and picked ten books that I think are good fits for this time of year. Of course I had to include my April and May book club picks (see the full list here), but I also have titles from some of my favorite authors. I hope you'll find something to tickle your reading fancy.

Author: Nadine Brandes

This is my April book club pick, and I am excited to dive into this retelling of the infamous Guy Fawkes. This book is told from the point of view of Fawkes' son, Thomas, and has a magical twist. The people of London are ruled by two forces: the color powers and the Stone Plague. Thomas hopes to bond with a gray mask to remove the stone that has invaded his body and is killing him. However, on the day of his Color Test, Thomas's father doesn't show up at all. Thomas tracks down his father and learns of his plans to kill the king. In order to save his own life, Thomas joins the cause.

Author: Kristin Wright

This is my book club pick for May. It all begins with a mother being poisoned with a wolfsbane-laced smoothie at the fifth grade graduation party. The accused is her own friend and PTA president, Kira Grant. The only evidence against her is the poisonous plant growing in her backyard and a bit of a mean streak. Kira hires defense attorney Allison Barton to represent her, and Allison is determined to find the truth and advance her career.

Author: Barbara Davis

Barbara Davis is a new favorite author for me. I absolutely love her writing style and have yet to read a book by her that I did not enjoy, so I am excited to dive into this dual timeline tale of love and loss. For generations, Soline's family has run an exclusive bridal salon in Paris, but World War II leaves her world and her heart in ruins, so she packs it all away. Decades later, aspiring gallery owner, Rory, leases Soline's old property and discovers all that she packed away. When Rory returns the mementos, it's clear the two were destined to meet, and Rory may hold the key to righting a four-decade wrong.

Author: Rochelle B. Weinstein

Avery loves Jude, but when he asks her to marry him, she can't commit before reconciling with the one she left behind in North Carolina. When she returns to her childhood home, Jude's teen daughter, Elle, goes with her. Elle is dealing with the loss of her mother and the complicated emotions of her first love. The two form an unexpected alliance, giving them the courage to move forward and Avery what she needs to confront her past.

Author: Laura Barrow

Twenty-eight years after her twin sister, Georgia, went missing, Savannah convinces her two older sisters, Rayanne and Sue Ellen, to return home to Louisiana to retrieve the time capsule they buried. Inside the capsule they find a photo that was taken on the day Georgia disappeared. In the background of the picture is a familiar woman. Rayanne and Sue Ellen just want to move on with their lives, but Savannah is determined to find the woman and maybe a clue to the past.

Author: Lucy Score

When Naomi's estranged twin calls her for help, it's the perfect excuse for Naomi to run away from her wedding. Too bad Tina hasn't changed at all; she not only steals Naomi's car and money but leaves her with the niece she didn't know existed. Now Naomi is stuck, but since Knox witnessed her life implode he figures the least he can do is help her out...even though he prefers solitude and doesn't tolerate drama.

Author: C.G. Blaine

When Eden's ex dumps her, she doesn't cancel the romantic getaway they'd booked. She doesn't plan on going, content to waste his money like he wasted two years of her life, but then he gets engaged and she boards the plane. Meanwhile, Beck needs to lie low for awhile. He found out about an abandoned week at a luxury resort and decides to claim it as his own. Of course it's Eden's "romantic" getaway he's conned his way into. He knows he should leave, but Eden's brother offers him $10,000 to spend the next five days keeping guys away from her. So he agrees to pretend to be her boyfriend, but we all know how these stories go. They'll have to return to reality eventually.

Author: Lindsay Jayne Ashford

I've read several things by this author and really enjoyed them. This one is set during World War II in Cornwall, England. After surviving a ship that was torpedoed by a German U-boat, Alice washes up on the Cornwall shore. The Viscount Jack Trewella, who found her, suspects Alice is either a prisoner of war or a spy, but her secret is one he never would have guessed. Alice seizes the opportunity to reinvent herself. As she begins falling for Jack, she realizes he, too, has secrets.

Author: Charlie N. Holmberg

Charlie Holmberg is one of my favorite authors, although nothing has yet to eclipse The Paper Magician series. Merritt Fernsby inherits a remote estate that's sat empty for more than a century. When he moves in, the doors slam shut and lock behind him, trapping Merritt inside. Enter Hulda Larkin. She's been trained in the taming of homes like Whimbrel House while preserving their historical and magical significance. She advises Merritt to make the house his ally and determines that she'll need to move in as well. Hulda and Merritt grow closer as the investigation goes deeper, but there's an outside force threatening Whimbrel's magic.

Author: Kristin Rockaway

Nicole Palmieri is a workaholic with no time for a social life or a love life, and that's fine with her until her best friend gets engaged and asks Nicole to be her maid of honor. Determined to do all the things, Nicole meticulously schedules out the next six months of her life. It's a semi-solid plan until she meets and begins falling for Brandon Phelps. Scheduling time to fall in love could turn Nicole's perfect plans into chaos.

March Favorites: 10 Things Bringing Me Joy This Month

It's been awhile since I did a favorites post, although not as long as the last go 'round. I had every intention of making this a monthly thing, but February came and went in the blink of an eye. Honestly, most of that month is a blur, that's how busy we were.

March has been roaring right along, and there's plenty of things that have been making my life better in some way. As always, this post is a mix of things from clothing to accessories, music, and even activities.

Woven Brown Mary Janes - I love these shoes so much. They feel much fresher than my plain old tan flats, and they go with literally everything. Not to mention, they're super comfortable. Unfortunately, my exact ones are only available in a few sizes now, but there is a really similar pair on Amazon that has good reviews.

White A-Line Skirt - This is another Target find that is making a big impact on my spring wardrobe. This skirt is such a classic cut; I know I'll still be wearing it years down the road. Some pros are that it's lined, has a bit of elastic in the waist, and has pockets. It comes in a solid brown as well as a navy floral pattern.

Green Overalls - Have y'all gotten tired of me talking up these overalls yet? I now own them in three colors, but these green ones are dominating my spring outfits. I have worn them so many different ways. They're basically a neutral at this point. Seriously, if you've been on the fence about getting a pair, jump on over to the buy side. They come in so many colors. Next on my list to buy is the light pink.

Checkered Makeup Bag - You might recognize this makeup bag from my last working moms Christmas gift guide. Well, my mom got one for me, and it came at just the right time because we have been travelling a good bit this spring. What I especially like about this bag, aside from its cute pattern, is the segmented pockets lining the inside. They're perfect for keeping my brushes organized and keeping my blush stick, eyeliner, eyebrow filler, mascara, and lipstick from getting lost in the bottom. There's also space for my hair pick and a small baggie of ponytail holders, and I can comfortably fit my brush and a hairclip in there as well without straining the zipper.

Hobo Bag - I love a good oversized handbag, but they've not been particularly trendy in recent years, so imagine my delight when I saw that hobo bags are trending this year. This one is really nice quality. The leather is nice and soft and the perfect level of slouchy. It's nice and roomy with one inside pocket. It does not have a zipper closure, which does not bother me since I rarely use them anyway.

Embroidery Kit - Sadly, I've not gotten to indulge in my new creative hobby as much as I would like to since we've been so busy with the hog shows and Odyssey, not to mention all the extra work I'm doing for this gifted certification course I'm taking. When I do have the time to work on it, it's so relaxing.

"God Needs the Devil" by Jonah Kagen - Oh, man. This song. It's everything for me right now. I could listen to it on repeat all day long. It's that good, y'all.

"Show Pony" by Glass Animals - Honestly this entire album is fire, but this song in particular just speaks to me. I've had it stuck in my head for months now.

Color Block Jam - I really love games that challenge my spatial reasoning, and this puzzle game is perfect. Unfortunately, I got a new phone and lost all my progress and am having to start over. If you're interested in playing, just search Color Block Jam in either the Google Play Store or the Apple Store.

Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Refreshing Foam - This is one of my favorite curly girl brands on the market, and I am so glad that my local Walmart has started carrying this curl refreshing foam. It's easy to apply, re-moisturizes my waves, smells lovely, and doesn't dry crunchy. It's also very reasonably priced.

9 Early Spring Outfits to Copy

Hey, friends! It's time for another Real Outfit Roundup where I share with you the outfits I wore in real life -- usually for teaching but not always -- along with brief explanations about each look and links to shop the same or similar products.

Is Spring springing where you live? We've had a round of spring-like weather recently, which has me excited about finally transitioning out of the bulkiness of winter. I've been reaching for lighter prints and fabrics, but it's not quite time for open-toed shoes or sandals yet. Instead, flat Mary Janes have been my go-to shoe, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

These outfits date back to March 5th and include a travel outfit as well as a weekend look that I would also wear to teach in.

Sizing info: I'm 5'2" and weigh about 140 lbs. I usually wear size 6 or s/m in clothes and size 7 in shoes.

This was the day after I went with half the grade on a field trip; the other half went this particular day so it was a weird schedule. We'd had rain the day before, and I felt like a fresh, bright outfit was in order. This white skirt certainly delivers on that front. It is everything a skirt should be. I'd been on the hunt for a white skirt for awhile. I've not really had a good one since I worked at the tv station, and the one I wore while working there simply wore out because I wore it so much. This skirt is fully lined, has an elastic waist and pockets, and is a classic shape.

I decided to pair it with this dark floral, puff sleeve, button-front blouse. I also own it in white. You can see it in this previous post as well as later on in this post. I like the look of this blouse with this skirt much better than the outfit I shared a couple of weeks ago with the white blouse. The proportions feel better.

Because I didn't want the outfit to feel super dark or weighed down, I finished the look with these favorite brown woven Mary Janes. Unfortunately, they're only available in some sizes, but luckily this is a popular style that you can find in other places. I'm linking to the exact shoe, which is worth every penny, as well as a similar option that's close in price and has good reviews.

The very next day we were able to wear jeans, but I had a scheduled parent meeting so I skipped the jeans day in lieu of a more professional outfit. Don't get me wrong, though; I love this outfit, and it actually feels more like me than most jeans outfits do.

This skirt has made an appearance or two on the blog this past school year. It is a pleated chiffon midi skirt with an elastic waist. It looks more expensive than it is and is really easy to wear. It comes in a ton of colors. I especially like all the purple options.

I paired it with this adorable floral print Peter Pan collar blouse that is crazy good quality considering it cost less than $15 -- regular priced. I love the puffed sleeves and the little ruffle detail on the collar. The shirt itself is a bit on the thin side, but I didn't feel like I needed to layer a camisole up under it.

I finished the look out with my tried-and-true classic black flats instead of the Mary Janes, which I still just don't love. I want to love them, but I just don't find myself reaching for them. I think the toes are too squared off. Anyway, I've gotten off topic... I have these flats in multiple colors and have only had issues with one pair, and that issue really was only because I did a lot of walking.

Shirt (similar) | Jeans | Shoes | Bag

On Friday, Alexis and I took off from school so that we could travel during the day. We had to drive nearly five hours to north of Atlanta for the first level of Odyssey of the Mind competition. Luckily, Alexis's team placed in the top 5 and is moving on to the state level. Anyway, this is what I wore to travel in.

This thermal shirt is seriously one of my best impulse buys this past winter. I wear it all. the. time. I truly wish I'd gotten it in at least one other color; that's how comfortable it is. Unfortunately, it's no longer available in any colors, but I did find a similar style and color elsewhere. I can't speak to quality or comfort.

My jeans are fairly old but a style that Old Navy pretty much always carries. If the pair I linked are the exact same, they're pretty dang close. My shoes are knock-off Chucks and have been my go-to sneaker choice lately. The biggest difference between them and real Converse is the insoles; these ones are not as squishy but they're not uncomfortable.

Shirt  | Jacket (similar) | Skirt (similar) | BeltShoes

This was a fun outfit. Unfortunately, most of it's sold out. My t-shirt is one of Old Navy's EveryWear graphic tees which are constantly being updated. This one says "Hopeless Romantic" and is from back in the fall. It's an off-white color with really dark maroon writing. I thought it was a nice complement to the light pink stripes in the skirt. My skirt is also from back in the fall. I linked to the closest match I could find, but I'm not really satisfied with it. This particular color was nowhere to be found except for around $300.

I topped everything off with my classic denim jacket. The original one is about sold out, but the new version doesn't look any different to me. I added a belt for some definition at my waist and then decided to match my shoes to the belt.

Blouse (similar) | OverallsShoes

I think I really just need to go ahead and buy these overalls in all the colors. This makes my third pair, and I am in love with this dark army green. They are bringing my cottage core fantasies to life, especially when paired with green-based floral blouses.

Speaking of my blouse, this one is really old. As in I can't remember when I got it, but I do remember that it came from Target. I really like this style of  blouse, and thankfully it's a pretty classic cut so there's generally always updated versions. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything really close to this particular color combo, but I linked to a blouse that has a similar vibe if not the same colors.

Give me all the floral print skirts for spring. This one, which has been in my closest for a few years now, is one of my favorites, but would you believe I've never worn it with white? What an oversight, for sure, because this combination is so pretty. This is the white blouse from my last outfit roundup, but I think it worked much better with this skirt, especially with the belt creating a visual divide at the waist. My skirt is still available and comes in a few other patterns. I also have the purple floral one, which I wear all the time.

These cute white Mary Jane flats have quickly found their place in my closet and were the perfect complement to this look. Lucky for you, these are still available in almost every size. They also come in a pretty pink.

This dress has been sitting in my closet patiently waiting for its time to shine for awhile. When I saw it in the store, I said there's no way this dress looks good on anyone, but I kept getting drawn back to it, so I decided to try it on. Y'all, do not sleep on the dropped waist trend, especially if you are short and want to look a little bit taller. This dress is so flattering in terms of its silhouette. I'm not fully in love with the placement of the belt loops, and I usually don't do the tie sashes, but the belt I would have replaced it with was too wide. The dress itself is real denim, so it's a bit heavy. The bodice is cute like a vest. The buttons are fully functional, and as you can see, it has pockets.

I'd been waiting to wear this dress because I felt like it was still too early for sleeveless, despite what the thermometer said. I finally caved to the mesh undershirt fad, and I'm pretty much in love with it. Of course, I've waited until the end of the season to jump on board, but you can absolutely expect me to buy all the colors just so I can have a pretty base layer for cooler weather. This one has the cutest flower pattern, which matches my shoes nicely. Mine is the pearl white, but the almond version of this pattern is really nice as well. The black and brown are already in my cart.

This was a weekend look, but it's something I would wear to teach in. I picked up this dress at Target. It comes in a navy floral and solid black or white. The buttons are fully functional, and it has pockets. The bodice is like a vest and the skirt is an a-line, which is arguably my favorite. I did get the medium, even though I usually wear a small in this brand, so that the buttons would not gap or pull and the skirt would be knee length. I did sacrifice a little bit of modesty up top, but I don't think it dropped the bust low enough to be of real concern.

It was a warm day so I mostly wore the dress on its own, but we went to a movie, and y'all know it's always cold in theaters, so I added this amazingly soft, blue cardigan. The tag said it's supposed to feel like cashmere, but it certainly did not have a cashmere price tag.

Which brings us to Saint Patrick's Day. Would you believe I don't have a single Saint Patrick's themed top in my closet? I wanted a really bright green for the day, and this skirt was perfect. It's got blue flowers, so this gorgeous blue blouse was a good match. When I got to school, one of my students said that I was dressed like a peacock and assured me it was a compliment. She was right; the bright blues and green are certainly reminiscent of a peacock's distinctive coloring.

And that's got you all caught up. Remember, you can stay on top of my outfits by following me on Instagram or LikeToKnowIt. You can also Shop My Instagram at any time.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

One Woman Book Club Review: A Not So Meet Cute

Every February, I make it my mission to read as many romance books as possible, and this year's One Woman Book Club pick was the perfect rom-com read that I didn't know I would need. It's definitely got a Pretty Woman vibe to it; in fact, the author cheekily slides references to the movie into the plot. Can you break the fourth wall in a book? If so, I feel like Meghan Quinn did it.

This book, while technically novel length at 418 pages long, was not a long read for me. I finished this book over a weekend in exactly two sittings. So not quite a gulp but also not a seven-course meal. I thoroughly enjoyed this quickie meal, though. It was a pretty typical rom-com and had me literally laughing out loud more than once. It's told in dual point of view, so that you get both perspectives, although the POVs did not always alternate chapters.

To avoid spoilers, skip to the end of this post.

***Spoilers***

Lottie has spent the last year working for a lifestyle blog run by a woman she's known since high school. Their friendship is the definition of toxic. Lottie grew up in Beverly Hills, but unlike most of her classmates, Lottie's family was struggling to make ends meet, so when popular-girl Angela showed interest in being friends, Lottie jumped at the opportunity. Except, Angela was a fickle friend, flitting from one person to the next, only sticking around as long as her current bestie was useful to her in some way. Despite recognizing that their friendship was toxic, Lottie would jump back into it every time Angela came back around.

When Angela asked Lottie to work for her -- at an insultingly low rate and with a terrible contract, I might add -- Lottie's parents and sister urged her not to take it, warning Lottie that Angela would do the exact same thing she did in high school. Sadly, they were right. At the end of Lottie's first year, right when she's supposed to be promoted and get a huge increase in pay, Angela fires her with intentions of hiring someone else to work for the same or an even lower rate. Just like that Lottie's plans go up in smoke, and her bank account is shrinking by the moment. She needs to do something and fast.

Cue desperation. In a plan that isn't really thought through, Lottie decides to stroll through the affluent neighborhood that borders her family home in search of a single, wealthy man. By the time she comes to her senses, she's good and lost and literally runs into Huxley, a well-known real estate investor who's not only single but looking for an unattached woman to help him out of a jam of his own making.

Huxley has had his eye on a specific property for awhile. He and his brothers have plans to develop it, but the owner, Dave, seems to have no interest in selling to the Canes. In fact, he won't even agree to a meeting with Huxley. Then fate intervenes. One day while he is out picking up lunch, Huxley crosses paths with Dave and his pregnant fiancé. In an attempt to make a connection, Huxley, not thinking, blurts out that he's also engaged and his fiancé is pregnant. His lie works, and Dave invites Huxley and his nonexistent fiancé to dinner with him and his bride-to-be. Huxley knows that if he admits he lied, his reputation, and that of his brothers, could be ruined.

Then, while taking a walk to clear his head, he meets Lottie, who tells him all about her crazy plan to find a rich, single husband. It seems like their meeting is meant to be, especially when Lottie agrees to have dinner with him. He proposes the two fake an engagement and pregnancy, and after some convincing, Lottie agrees. What follows is a hilarious, romantic, frustrating tale of two people who have undeniable chemistry but are determined not to act on it for the sake of business and professionalism.

Of course there are bumps along the way, and like with all rom-coms there is a break-up over a misunderstanding. Turns out, Dave and his fiancé figure out pretty quickly that Huxley and Lottie are faking it and decide to have a little fun with them including a really awkward Lamaze class, an uncomfortable trip to a breast pump store, and a totally insane parenting class. Dave lets the secret slip to one of Huxley's business associates who then brings it up in a meeting with all three Cane brothers, saying that Dave's fiancé is the one who told Dave. Of course she could have only learned the truth from one person: Lottie. You can guess what happens next.

There's also a serious plot arc. While Lottie and Huxley are dancing around their feelings for each other, Lottie is finding her place in the business world. Thanks to Huxley paying off her student loans and letting her stay in his house, Lottie can help her sister with her start-up professional organization business. Working with her sister is Lottie's dream, and she's confident she can help her take the next step to making it big.

***End Spoilers***

This was a fun read. I enjoy romantic comedies, and this one hit all the right marks. I was not exaggerating at the beginning of this post when I said it had me literally laughing out loud. Lottie is pretty funny, but I would be lying if I didn't said that she's also a bit irrational, childish, and annoying at times. Huxley, meanwhile, acts like a jerk and grade-A alphahole. He eventually chills out, but his attitude, especially toward Lottie, while understandable, is a bit insufferable.

There are some side characters in this story that I think are noteworthy. Not Angela for obvious reasons, although she does get her comeuppance. But Lottie's sister, Kelsey, is a great character. She's a good balance for Lottie. She was what I would consider to be the voice of reason for most of the book, and although she's the younger sister, Kelsey acted almost like Lottie's compass. Huxley's brothers are also fun, though they got much less page time than Kelsey. Not to worry, though, because Meghan Quinn is not done with this trio. There are two more books: So Not Meant To Be and A Long Time Coming. And yes, I plan to read them both.

What to Wear for St. Patrick's Day

One of my favorite things about working in a school is the many opportunities to dress for a theme, and St. Patrick’s Day is one of my favorite holidays to dress for. As a redhead with Irish ancestry in my heritage, green is one of my best colors, so this time of year is my time to shine.

Just like with Valentine’s Day and every other holiday, I try not to go overboard with holiday-specific clothing. Instead I opt for items that I can wear more than once a year -- or at least more than once a month -- and I have been on the lookout for all the green clothing and accessories.

So if you need some inspiration on what to wear for St. Patrick's Day without looking like a leprechaun, look no further!

Green Stripes

Stripes are always in style and right now there are a ton of green striped options out there to choose from. I especially like this green striped tank top from Old Navy. It's something I would layer under a jacket or cardigan but also something I can wear all summer long. I also adore this green striped short sleeve sweater, which is a more polished look.

If a dress is more to your liking, check out this green striped maxi dress or this blouse and skirt set which can also be worn separately, both from Target.

Graphic Tees

Y'all know I love a good graphic tee, and there are lots of good ones out there for St. Patrick's Day. I love this reading shamrocks tee; it's perfect for an English teacher. For other teachers, try something like this lucky teacher tee. Some non-teacher options are this lucky club tee and shamrock rainbow tee. If it's still cold where you live, try this lucky sweatshirt.

Dressier Options

St. Patrick's Day is on a Monday this year, so I tried to find options that are office appropriate. This light green lace sleeve blouse is so pretty. I have it in a couple of colors, and it comes in a few more shades of green. This sheer green skirt is another pretty option which can be worn all spring. If your workplace is more laid back, try this green linen mini dress.

Accessories

If you're one of those people who doesn't really doesn't get into dressing for minor holidays but still want to participate in the fun, accessories are your best friend. Socks like these ones from Old Navy are always an easy way to get in the spirit. A fun pair of earrings is a quick way to add a dash of the holiday to your look without overdoing it. These come in a few different designs. This last one is for all my elementary teacher friends who love a good themed headband. How cute is this shamrock design?

Real Outfit Roundup: What I Wore Lately to Teach Middle School

I'm back for a very much overdue real outfit roundup. For any newcomers, this is usually a twice-weekly post in which I share the outfits I wear in real life along with brief explanations and links to shop the same or similar items.

I do like to remind my guests from time to time that you have multiple ways to keep up with my outfit choices besides waiting every two weeks for this post, although I certainly thank you for visiting.

1) You can follow me on Instagram where I share outfits with links to shop on the same day I wear them or within the same week at least.

2) You can download the Like to Know It app and follow my shop there. I actually update this almost daily.

3) Visit the Shop My Instagram tab at the top of this page. This page is linked to my Like to Know It shop, so it stays up to date and is always a good way to keep up with what I'm wearing.

Any of these three ways will keep you in the loop in a much more timely fashion as well as be a better way to make sure the clothing items you love stay in stock.

Anyway, on to what you're here for -- the post! It's been almost exactly two weeks since my last blog post and even longer since an outfit roundup, which should have been published last week. However, we had a week-long break off from school and both the regional and state hog shows, so I've been pretty busy and didn't actually have two weeks of outfits to share with you. Now I do, so here we go.

Sizing info: I'm 5'2" and weigh about 140 lbs. I usually wear size 6 or s/m in clothes and 7 in shoes.

We're starting way back in the week of Valentine's Day. As a teacher, and an English teacher at that, I felt obligated to dress in theme for the week, especially since I had assigned a two-part Valentine's Day project that week. But there's one thing you should know about me: I don't actually like wearing obviously-themed clothing, so I tend to focus on colors instead.

For this outfit, I went with a country song lyric graphic t-shirt. It's hard to tell in the picture, but the shirt says "Cowboy Take Me Away." It's an old song by The Dixie Chicks and an appropriate Valentine's vibe. I picked this t-shirt up at my local Tractor Supply on a whim, but you can find different versions pretty much anywhere. I linked to my exact one and a couple similar ones from Amazon.

I paired the shirt with this purple floral print skirt that I've had for a few years now. It's one of my favorites to wear and style all year long, and it's still available in all sizes. You can just barely see my lilac-colored flats poking out from under it. I actually bought these to finish out a Daphne from Scooby Doo costume several years ago, but they're really just a good color for spring...and I have these flats in a ton of colors.

This actually might be my favorite outfit from the week. I love a classic black-and-white color scheme with a pop of red, and this outfit delivers. My slip skirt is a few years old, and honestly I just don't see much out there that matches it, but I did find some cute alternatives that would work with this outfit and linked them for you.

My exact t-shirt is sadly only available in a few sizes now, but I linked to one with a similar silhouette; it's just missing the red, embroidered Bonjour.

Looking at this picture, I can objectively say that the square-toed Mary Jane flats were a good choice, but y'all, I just don't love them. I'm trying, but they're too square, especially since I've found some really cute ones with a more almond-shaped toe. I'm going to keep wearing these for now, but definitely expect to see me update these to a toe shape that feels more me sometime in the future.

Obviously the skirt had to be the star of this show. I mean, just look at it. So much fun, and before you ask, this is one that will not be relegated to only February. It's way too cute to be hidden away the rest of the year.

As you can see in the picture, the skirt is pretty long. To be fair, I am wearing flats and it's sitting pretty low on my waist to create kind of a dropped-waist look (I really like that silhouette for myself), but just be aware that it's got a lot of length to work with. The waist is nice and stretchy, though, so you can certainly experiment with placement. In fact, I think it could be styled as a dress if done the right way.

Sweater | Jeans | Belt | Shoes (similar)

This was a fun outfit, too. It was actually a bit too warm for the sweater, but I bought it specifically to wear during Valentine's week and, by golly, I was gonna wear it. The buttons are shaped like hearts, and they are surprisingly functional although not exactly practical. I actually wouldn't recommend unbuttoning them at all; just wear it like a pullover sweater. The sleeves are cuffed as is the waist and it's trimmed in white.

Do these jeans look familiar? I am still loving them so much. These were definitely a good purchase decision. I decided to go with black accessories. You can barely see them, but my shoes are loafers that I've had for years. Thankfully, these never really go out of style, and I was able to find an almost-exact pair for you.

It's been awhile since I dabbled in mixing prints. Is that even still a thing people do? Anyway, I've had this polka dotted blue skirt for years; it's one of my closet staples, and I'm always looking for fun new ways to style it. This blue floral blouse felt like the perfect complement.

The blouse has a lace-edged Peter Pan collar, which I personally love, and banded puff sleeves. Y'all know I can't say no to a statement sleeve. The white flowers are actually embroidered, adding an interesting bit of texture. I love almost everything about this shirt. The one thing I don't love is that, on me at least, it wants to gap between the second and third buttons from the top, so right around my bosom area. I think I'm going to add a hook eye closure or something to keep it closed.

Let's talk about my shoes. How cute are they?! Mesh flats are everywhere right now, and I don't love them. These woven Mary Janes, though, are a step up and feel much more polished. I also love that they have an almond-shaped toe versus the currently trendy square toe.

This button-up denim skirt is one of my best purchases. It is so versatile and can be worn all year long. Sadly, it's on its way out and is now only available in a handful of sizes. However, the longer-length denim skirt is still current, and there are lots of those to be found. I linked to two different versions that I like (but probably won't buy).

Anyway, this pink floral blouse was featured in my Valentine's Day outfit inspiration post. It's gorgeous in person, y'all. The pattern  reminds me of cherry blossom trees. It's got this beautiful gold thread woven throughout, and the fabric is just really nice quality. The collar and sleeves are lined in lace, which adds an even more feminine touch. As with the blue blouse above, I've got some issues with gapping in the same area.

I decided to match the gold thread in the blouse with my seldom worn but well loved gold sparkly ballet flats. I've had these for a really long time but don't get many occasions to wear them. I actually found a pair online that look exactly like mine, although they're definitely not the same brand.

I really love how this outfit turned out. The navy blue blouse felt unexpectedly fresh against the pale yellow of the skirt. It's hard to tell here but the skirt has blue woven throughout its floral pattern, but it's definitely not the dominant color. I tend to lean toward green for this skirt, but I love the juxtaposition of the darker color here, especially with the brown woven Mary Janes to balance it out.

Unfortunately, this exact skirt is no longer available, but the skirt itself comes in several other patterns, including a darker yellow, so I still linked to it. I tried to find something that matches this skirt more closely, but at the end of the day I really did not. Maybe one day this exact one will become available again. Who knows.

I actually did not wear this to teach in, but I absolutely would. I wore this over the weekend. We went to our local Mardi Gras parade, and I wanted to be comfortable but feel put together.

This dress is by Universal Thread, which is one of my favorite casual brands at Target. It's a drop waist style, but for me the smocked bodice did not want to stay pulled down all the way. Normally I would say going up to the next size would fix that, but I don't think that would fix it in this case. At the end of the day, it wasn't that big a deal for me. Side note, the dress does have pockets and comes in an olive green, as well.

Because the dress is sleeveless, and it's still only March, I felt like I needed a third layer, so out comes my tried-and-true dark denim jacket. Surprisingly, this one has finally completely sold out after being available for the last five-ish years. No worries, though, they've got a really similar one to replace it. The only difference I can see is that it might be a bit baggier, which is the style these days.

This outfit didn't quite work out like I hoped it would. I found myself fighting with the blouse all day long, and I wonder if I should have sized down. It's meant to fit looser, but I think it's too loose. Tucking it into the skirt proved almost impossible, and I kept having to adjust the neckline. The blouse itself is gorgeous but very thin. I layered it over a plain white camisole.

This skirt is such a fun pattern, but I didn't realize until I went to wear it that it has one of those waistbands that is flat in the front and stretchy in the back. Those don't work all that great for me for whatever reason, so I was pretty self-conscious all day about whether the front waistband was laying flat or if it had tried to roll up. Next time, I'll probably add a belt, although I have no idea which belt would work best here.

Now for the shoes. I saw these in Target and fell in love. I have very few white shoes, and those I do own aren't great for teaching. These feel like the perfect in-between. They're pretty and feel dressed up but they're flat so I can wear them all day.
